Methyl Methacrylate is a methyl ester of methacrylic acid. It has an unpleasant fruity odor and is a colorless, flammable liquid. It has a low log octanol or water partition coefficient and a moderate water solubility that is 15.8 g/litre in addition to a comparatively high vapor pressure of 4 kPa at 20°C. It normally has a purity of 99.9% and a tiny amount of an inhibitor to slow polymerization. Methyl Methacrylate is majorly used to manufacture emulsion polymers, inks, acrylic surface coatings, polymethylmethacrylate and copolymers, acrylic fibers, acrylic film, radiation-polymerized impregnants for wood, solvent-based adhesives and binders, acrylic bone cement used in orthopedic surgery, and much more.
